Li Qiang, born in 1962, graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1985. He is currently a professor in the Oil Painting Department at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and is regarded as an important artist within the context of contemporary painting in Southwest China.
Grounded in a strong academic training in painting, Li Qiang’s practice moves beyond the simple representation of reality. His works often explore the relationship between nature, bodily experience and inner emotion. Through colour, brushwork, texture and composition, he creates images that sit between figuration and abstraction. Whether working with motifs such as wild grass, plants or mountain landscapes, Li Qiang captures a quiet yet persistent sense of growth, vitality and tension within everyday natural scenes.
