Tremoring Steel

Tremoring Steel is a london-based photographer and visual artist whose work examines how identity is shaped through discipline, visibility, and performance.

Working between photography, moving image, and installation, Tremoring Steel is interested in the relationship between physical endurance and self-expression. Influenced by years of movement-based training, particularly within pole communities, her work often captures bodies in states of suspension, imbalance, repetition, or restraint. Rather than treating performance as spectacle, she focuses on the labour, concentration, and vulnerability that exist beneath carefully controlled appearances.

Her ongoing photographic series On Pole documents pole communities from an intimate internal perspective, challenging the voyeuristic assumptions often imposed onto performers. Through fragmented compositions, interrupted gestures, and monochrome imagery, the work explores how people negotiate visibility, intimacy, and self-construction within environments shaped by social expectation and cultural stigma.
